Résumé CV's aren't working!

Well they're certainly not for autistic jobseekers

We are developing an alternative to another barrier to the employment of autistic individuals, which is perhaps not as obvious, namely the traditional Resume/CV. Autistic job seekers often have little work history, work history with gaps or just work history that is not the norm. This means that it can be hard for them to sell themself and also means that they get filtered out at an early stage. So we are developing an alternative, based on a Skills Profile. The process of developing this Skills Profile is intended to be one of self-discovery for the autistic person and, it is intended, will help build confidence and will be a long way from a Resume/V with tricky gaps to explain which just put candidates on the defensive.

The résumé CV hinders, not helps!

It needs to be replaced

The autistic candidate is nervous

Their interviewer is examining their résumé

So many short jobs, so many gaps

Each one has a story..but how do you explain that a job was going fine until you became the focus of relentless teasing?

Or a job that was going brilliantly until you had to wear a uncomfortable uniform and name badge?

Or the fact that it took you three months to recover from a meltdown after ending a job owing to constantly changing instructions?

The résumé is just another barrier to employment for many autistic jobseekers

It has to go and be replaced with something more useful, like a skills matrix

We're working on it...
